Carter Borton, a Junior at Eddyville Charter School, earned a chance to compete in the 4-H Shooting Sports National Championship this past Summer in Grand Island, Nebraska. Carter competed with over 700 participants from across the nation and finished just outside of the Top 100. Carter specifically got to compete in the categories of Trap, Skeet, and Sporting Clays.
He has been involved with Shotgun Club, under the guidance of Coach Dave Boyce, since he was in the 6th grade. Carter developed his skills to the point that he entered the State competition in late June over in Albany, where he finished 2nd overall.
When I asked Carter if he had flown to Nebraska, he smiled and said "NO WAY" as he had too many concerns about his shotgun being lost on the flight. Carter and his family took advantage of the long car ride to Nebraska, swinging up through Spokane, WA, Coeur D'Alene, ID, and across Montana, even visiting Yellowstone National Park.
The Shotgun Club practices at the VFW in Toledo and is currently bringing on new participants to be involved in this fun and unique club.
Well done Carter and congratulations to you! What an amazing experience.
